Can you believe I'm actually nervous to post?

Hi all,

I've been lurking on the boards for awhile, and I've decided it's about time to take the plunge and introduce myself. My name's Meg, and I'm a 19-year-old college student.

I've been a writer since I learned how to spell, and I'm fairly confident in my abilities; I'd love to begin introducing my work to a wider audience, but I'm still working on overcoming an immense fear of rejection. I think learning the capacity for resiliency--the ability to bounce back smiling--will be an ongoing process, for me.

Anyway, I've learned so much from you guys already, and I'm excited to continue learning from you and maybe even....gasp....participating in discussions. Thanks for creating such a welcoming community!

Welcome aboard. Nothing to be afraid of here. Everybody is kind and helpful. (Oh, and I try to see rejections as successes. If I'm getting rejections in the mail, it means I'm still trying!) Good luck!

Rejection

Fear of rejection isn't difficult to overcome. Place a butter knife on a stove burner until it's red hot. Now touch said knife to any really sensitive body part that comes to mind. Repeat daily until you reach the point where you're actually enjoying the pain.

You are now ready to face rejection. Nothing to it.

Thank you! I'm double-majoring in English and Psychology. I'd like to eventually become a poetry/art therapist, allowing people to discover themselves through art and the written word. While, of course, freelancing on the side.

Welcome, Meg! Psych is a good thing to have under your belt when you're writing. Easier to get into your character's minds if you're writing fiction. MHO!

Hiya, Meg! Welcome to the Water Cooler.

Like the other's have said, don't worry about rejection. Mind you, I go through an awful lot of virtual Oreo's after a rejection. Just remember that piece of advice you'll hear time and time again from other writers: it's only that one piece of writing that was rejected, not you.
