R'lyeh, trying to wake up that useless Cthulhu.
How do you all decide on your titles? I have one friend who actually comes up with a title, and the work gets written to fit it. I'm thinking of changing my title, and I was wondering how everyone else goes about it.

I don't even care about titles. I come up with something vaguely catchy that vaguely relates to the book and pitch it with that. Between my agent and my editor and her team, I trust someone along the line to come up with a good one.

My point is, it's not really something to worry about. There are people who are paid to come up with good titles. They will come up with one for your book whether you want them to or not.

After I've been writing it for awhile, I find that I refer to it as something other than "my work in progress" because that gets tiresome. I use the name enough that it becomes my title. If it's changed by editors, que sera sera!

I think about what I want to convey...
For instance now I'm writing a novel that involves secrets, a different world, and a love story...
I don't have anything definitive right now, but, I'm looking at words near to "lands, loves, and secrets" to convey what I want.
Hope it helps.

My title had already changed several times as I've been working on my WIP and doubtless it will change again once it's submitted.

I try to choose something that sounds interesting but in keeping with the themes and subject matter of what I'm trying to write. The final say on titles however rests with the publisher so don't get too attached to whatever you come up with.
