Does anyone know approximately (which decade) when school notebooks started being manufactured with pictures on them - things like movie stars and such?

You mean the spiral bound notebooks, or the sorts of notebooks where you load in the paper? (Three ring binders some folks call them.)

Probably the seventies if I recall.

I mean spiral notebooks.

I remember them from the mid 1960s: spiral bound with ELVIS!!!! (squeeee)

Cool! So the reason I'm asking is that my main character owns a paper factory, and I want him to come up with the idea of putting pictures on spiral notebooks as this could potentially be a money maker and save his company. The book is set in 1962, so if they were already common before that then it wouldn't work.

They may have been on the market in 1962, but not popular until the Beatles started the revolution. That would have been about the same time. '63 - '64
