hi, although i have been writing awhile, i am new to absolute write, and i am having trouble when people review or discuss writings with me. they always use a bunch of things like MC and MS and YA, and i don't know what many of these mean, destroying any meaning i may make out of what they say. I mean, i have realized that AW is absolute write, and MC is main character (I think) but there are many i don't know. do you think you could give me as many abreviations used on here as possible, and what they mean? it would really help, thanks.

MS = manuscript (probably) which may also be written as ms or mss.

Good luck with that. I'm new to this site too, and have people garble stuff at me all the time. I just smile a lot and say something pithy. Seems to work.
Don't feel funny asking what MC means (or whatever abbreviation is used) when you read a post. There are a lot of people still getting used to it. In fact, I'm friends with a person who has been illustrating children's books for years with HarperCollins, etc. She didn't even know what MG stood for.
Basic abbreviations:
MC--main character
PB--picture book
MG--middle grade
YA--young adult
SF--science fiction
You'll get the hang of it. And remember, don't be afraid to ask!

Some of the acronyms can be deduced by their usage. Some, though, you just have to look up. I'm bad about using lots of medical terms/abbreviations and acronyms; and government/military acronyms, terms and appreviations. I used them, for so long, I figure everyone should know them. If I know something it must be common knowledge 'cause I ain't that smart.
And aside from the writing world, as Jodi said, there are acronyms in other walks of life. For instance, many people somehow associated with eduction, might know these:
CST
LDT-C
ADD
ADHD
OCD
IEP
NI
ED
PI
And tons of others. <WHEW!>
When I was teaching, I had to learn the terms fast. Then when my sons were in special ed, there were even more to learn, and I'd sit in at the meetings, nodding my head as if I knew all those abbreviations thrown out at me. I went home and looked them up. And new acronyms in the special needs field seem to be cropping up every minute.
