So, I've got 23,000 words of m/m shapreshifter erotica, and having set my heart on Samhain, I've just found out they won't take resubmissions if you submitted to an anthology. Curses. I'm still tempted to have another go, but I feel I ought to have a proper look around first.

I've looked at Ellora's Cave, but having submitted an earlier draft I'm in a similar position as I am with Samhain, though I've rewritten it significantly since then (the Samhain anthology required another 2000 words, and once I started I couldn't stop). Also, after all the recent kerfuffle and the debate surrounding them and Borders I'm a bit wary of how secure they are right now.

I've thought about Cobblestone, too, but I bought a few books in the genre I'm writing and I wasn't terribly impressed. It's all professionally presented, but the writing wasn't of the same quality as those I'd read from EC and Samhain.

Ravenous Romance are still quite new, and their editing currently leaves something to be desired. (PAGE BREAK in the middle of a page? Oops).

I've bookmarked Torquere, Loose Id, Liquid Silver, Changeling and Dreamspinner as well, but I've not bought anything from them yet. Obviously, a novella really limits who I can submit to, but I don't think the plot would stand padding. Does anyone have any experience with the listed epubs, as either a reader or writer, and can anyone reccomend any others? I'm looking for somewhere ideally connected to Fictionwise, with royalty rates based on gross, not net, and decent reversion clauses. Book recs similar to what I've written are also appreciated (I like writing it, I like reading it!)

(also, has anyone ever resubmitted to Samhain after an unsuccessful anthology submission and got away with it? ;))

I've bought a few Loose ID stories and they were fine. With RR, it's been all over the map - with one story, you wonder what the hell they were thinking, and with another, it's just great.

Not sure about the others that you mentioned, and hadn't heard of Changeling or Dreamspinner, so I will have to look them up!

If EC and Samhain are out, I'd start with Loose Id and Liquid Silver based on sales numbers and the quality of books they publish. I've read some fabulous stories from both of them. Loose ID seems to publish quite a bit of high quality M/M so that would be a good starting point.

Your work is too short (and too long) for either of RR's lines (novels and short stories.) Also they pay on net so that's another ding considering your criteria.

I've never purchased anything from Changeling, Torquere or Dreamspinner so I don't really have an opinion on those other than the available sales data on EREC. They wouldn't be my first choices but that's just me.

I recently submitted to Lyrical, but mine is not erotic, per say. Don't know if they do erotic, too. You might check.

Thanks for all the input. I think Loose ID, then Liquid Silver are going to be my next shots; both well known, both with a relatively quick return, and both asking for basically the same thing. Loose ID is specifically looking for m/m, which is why I'm going to hit them first. I'm less of a fan of Liquid Silver's classification of all non-het romance in the hottest categoy regardless of heat level.
