Hi everyone. I've never tried doing erotica before, even though I've been told I should.

Anyway, does anyone know how the market is on BDSM stuff? That's a realm I'm familiar with, and that's where my story idea goes. Any other pointers?

Well, Ellora's cave has 255 books classified as BSDM; Loose ID has 132 classified as BSDM/Fetish. I'd say that means there's a market for it.

Are you writing a short story, a novella, a novel or...?

I'm sure you'll get lots of pointers from other AWers. :)

I want to do it as a novel, but I may try a few short stories first to test the waters with as far as critiques.

Thanks for the stats. I know a few people who read them, but as we are a small group I wasn't sure if that represented more of a following.

Or you could go the agent-traditional publisher route.

BDSM needs a wider audience, right?! :D

I'm new to this too, so I've been taking a stand back and watch approach--I tend to go into things like a bull, thereby learning from mistakes I don't need to.

Behave yourself.

What did I say?! I meant it!

Certain things need to come out of the closet. Or out from behind the counter.

We need to burst out from our brown-paper bags and proclaim ourselves loud and proud.

Hey, I've been thinking about writing an erotica, too. I've been hitting all the sites, seeing what is out there, and OMG I read a few. Don't think I'm creative enough, sadly. Some of the things...wow. And I am no faint-hearted lily. Or, I didn't think I was, anyway. Let me know how it goes, and best of luck!

Thanks. I don't think this should be too hard. I can draw a lot from reality since I live in the lifestyle. It's mainly a matter of making it sell.

Wannawrite,

There is a market for almost everything. If you want to write erotica, put pen to paper and see how it flies. Just because your preferences aren't out of this world, doesn't mean there aren't readers waiting for what you have to say.
