ok so I'm currently writing this book about a girl who has a certain power and I'm trying to figure out if I should allow her to run into an enemy with another power or not....

well i'm not sure but i would like to know what you all think would be best... having her go up against another psychic or having her power cause her problem...

Ask your character.

Does she think she's the only one of her kind out there? Does the idea of meeting someone else like her make her happy, scared, excited, or elicit any emotional reaction at all? If so, then you can probably use that in your book.

Is she the kind that doesn't know - or pushes - her limits so that she gets into trouble with her powers? Do you mean psychic like mindreader or telekinesis? If that's her personality, then have her cause trouble.

Your post is really vague about the concept which makes me wonder if your characters are developed. If they're 3-dimensional, then they can tell you where they need to go to tell their story better than someone else.

Let your characters do what they feel is best. If you find that the only way to keep things going is to have her run into another character with a power, go for it. If you find that it grinds the whole thing to a halt, try a different route.

Only you and your characters know what's best for your story.

Cyia my characters are in fact developed my main character has the ability of Precognition. She fears her ability but is curious about it as well. In the story its kind of a "family trait" if you will...

The story you're writing is not 'about' the power your MC holds.
In the same way, 'Rocky' is not about boxing.

Your story is 'about' the character overcoming fear, or finding the love of her life, or growing up, or becoming a complete human being, or freeing herself from some toxic part of her past, or creating something important, or resisting an insidious evil . . .
sumpthink like that.

This power she has is just a plot device.
Rocky could have been an Olympic swimmer or an options trader and 'the story' would be the same.

What is your 'story'?

You've probably heard this before and it's probably up here already but I'll say it anyway. You are the one that's closest to your character. Ask her what she would rather do. Which one will add to the story?
