Is it cliche?

In my current WIP my MC keeps going back to something her father told her while trying to work out the best course of action. What he said was "if you always do the easy thing you'll rarely do teh right thing.".

My problem is I can't figure out of it is a cliche I heard somewhere before , in which case I need to come up with something different, or if it is just sounding like it because it has been running through my head so much. I plugged it into Google and came up with nothing so I think I may be ok. I know the concept its self may be cliche but I am wondering about teh wording.

Thanks for any input.

LOL you actually hit exactly what I was worried about. I have a six (almost seven) year old who has been Spider-man obsessed for four years. The fact that you immediately went to "With great power comes great responsibility" tells me it may have embedded deeper in my mind than I care to admit.

I agree that the sentiment has been done before, but I think the way you've worded it is unique. There was something similar in 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', right vs. easy. But not that similar:

"Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory."

I'd word it more colloquially. Right now, it sounds like something from a Hallmark card, but it's a very honest sentiment, and a lot of people probably feel this way, so...yeah! Make it sound more natural, and I think it will be fine.
