Be honest - could it be much worse?

The only part of Troy that had the remotest impact for me was Peter O'Toole recreating one of the greatest moments of the Iliad as Priam begging for the return of his son's body. For me, that's a piece of literature thousands of years old that still sounds fresh and has emotional punch today. I felt O'Toole was recognising that scene is one of the greatest in the poem.

The rest? Dreck.

I don't want to see another gem of the classics butchered so that this or that Hollywood actor can stretch his or her ego.

You know... that Armand Assante miniseries wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I mean, it was pretty horrible, but it had some redeeming qualities, like the death of Odyseeus' mother, Anticlea. Homer kinda leaves it up in the air how she died. She tells Odysseus when he meets up with her in the underworld that she died of grief, very ambiguous, but the miniseries shows her in such despair, that she just walks into the sea and never comes back. I thought that was pretty good.

But ya, this will probably be crappy. I mean, its being written by the guy who did the Texas Chainsaw murder reboot? Are you kidding.

Still... cast Sean Bean as Odysseus again, and I'll be interested. His Odysseus in Troy was one of the few characters that the movie pretty much nailed... more or less.
