Classification.

I am having some difficulty classifying my WIP and was wondering if any of you wonderfully experienced and talented individuals could help. *Please remember my flattery and forget my grammar, I am very tired*

Nutshell of story is a young girl is date raped and during the attack discovers she has powers beyond that of a normal person. The stories centers around her learning to use her powers and struggling with the morality of acting outside the law as a vigilante vs. allowing people to suffer when she has the ability to stop them.

I originally classed it as sci-fi but others have told me it should be fantasy or adventure. A few even told me to leave it to the comic books.

So if you were shelving it what section of the book store would you stick it in?

When the story first invaded my head I thought it was fantasy, which was cool because I love fantasy. Then someone told me that super powers fall under the realm of science fiction and they had a pretty decent argument , the finer points of which have been lost to my muddled mind, so when I finally started writing it I went with that.

Adding urban in front of the fantasy feels right though. Perhaps it was the lack of dragons that led me away from calling it fantasy.

Unless I decide later she got her powers as a result of being an alien hybrid I think your classification fits better.
