I work for a small educational start up. We are working on an educational videogame for 6-12 year olds. We are hoping to supplement the story of the game with books. The "creators" of the game are teachers. While they have great ideas, they aren't writers. Like AT ALL... like, starting chapters with the words, "And then..." As someone who reads like alot, it drives me bananas.. So here is what I am looking for and hopefully you all can help me narrow down the type of person I am looking for and how to find them...

The "Creators" have written about 4 Chapter books which are all awful ( again, not an issue with content, but with grammer, sentence structure and story structure). I would need someone who is almost an editor/translator for their Ideas. They would be provided with content and need to work with the creators to hash out these stories. They would then work with us to come up with stories for different ages and different learning skills. Eventually we would have them writing the stories for young adults based on the world in the game.... independent of the creators....

So, do I look for an Editor? do I look for a staff writer? are there places to post job inquiries? do I have to go through a union? ( my background is in Film and TV, where everything is union based) Any help you all can provide would be so appreciated!!

Thanks again, and I apologize for any spelling and grammar mistakes, as I have typed this so quickly....

Well, I'm not officially an editor (LOL) but if editing my own work counts, I'm nearly an expert! I would love an opportunity to do something like what you describe! How would I go about applying for the job?

Forgive me, I'm inclined to err on the caution when it comes to first-time posters with no info in their profiles. Right at the top of the forums list on our main page you'll see Newbie Forum (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27) should you feel inclined to tell us more about yourself and your project. There's far greater chance of your receiving responses and feedback if you start interacting with board members.

I'd suggest you look at these forums:
Paying Markets (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=24)
Nonpaying Markets (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25)
...depending on whether you're offering pay for the reading/editing job?

If those aren't suitable then perhaps Beta Readers, Mentors, and Writing Partners (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30) might get you something... in fact I'll move this thread there so members looking for something to read have a better chance of seeing it.

We also have a Games (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=198) forum if you're inclined to discuss the game or its spin-offs.

You should also check out our Share Your Work (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=26) critique forum (password = vista) which is split into genre and interest sub-forums. You might consider posting material there for peer critique.
