Alright, I've caved. My friend has been trying to get me hooked for a while, and it's finally worked.
Haven't been playing long, and I'm trying to keep myself from completely giving up on the real world - especially since I'm still looking for a job. I'm doing pretty well, too. So far i'm only playing in the evenings - leaving regular office hours for job searching.
Nonetheless, I have lvl 23 rogue, a 19 druid and a 6(ish) mage - all on Shattered Hand.

my problem with wow is that its just a time sink.

I find teaching myself new facts so I can flex my brain muscles and spout factual factoidal information way more satisfying than any game could be.

I played wow from the time it came out for a year... went back once or twice for a month or two after i quit.

Its just a time sink. And There is waaaaaaaaaaaay to much knowledge that I need to arm myself with to be a successful intellectual one day in the distant future to be able to justify playing a game like that.

I like games, i like online games, and will play a few in the future, but wow is just, meh... Half of tis appeal at this point in its evolution is the mob effect it has, because we ALL know someone that plays it and wants everyone else they know to play it...

Here's my Armory Profile. Currently in DPS gear.
Only really put my time into one char, though I have a few alts.
Haven't raided in awhile so gear is a bit archaic.
I leveled from 70-80 in 14 days, now I spend my time raiding nights and doing seasonal achievements, any any new quests that are made.

My WoW time has decreased dramatically in the past few months as the newest content isn't that interesting to me. That said, when the raid on Arthas is finally released, I'm sure I'll start playing more.

All I can say is that Worgen as a playable Alliance race makes even less sense than the spacemen Draenei did.

Come on Blizzard, screw China and their silly regulations. Make Pandaren a playable race. I want to be a Brewmaster!

Why do Worgen not make sense? They're cursed humans, and can actually be in human form outside of combat. I think it's a nice way to finally open up Gilneas, which has been ignored for too long.

How did I miss the WoW thread?! lol

I'm looking forward to Cataclysm, all except for one detail: how are they going to make the classes work lore-wise? Night elves for example don't practice arcane for a reason (though it's funny that some hunter spells are arcane based

). But I heard something about faction switching? Maybe that's how they're gonna make it work?

I believe faction switching will be a paid service much like changing servers. Your race will also change to one of the opposite faction of your choice.

I was rather shocked to see a Night Elf mage mentioned also, but Blizzard said, to paraphrase, that they're starting to delve into the forbidden, so they're definitely aware of the contradiction.

Well they've been pretty good lore-wise in the past, so maybe with the extreme change that's coming with the new expansion maybe the races figure they need to change with it?

If you follow the beginner quests in Duskwood, the Worgen make perfect sense as Alliance.

So, is it just me, or did the writing in the last expansion get, um, a lot better? I seriously went from skipping most of the quest info screens, to crossing the pond and reading all of them. Did Blizzard get new writers? And where the hell do we sign up?

Not entirely, unless I'm forgetting details about the quests. If you do the worgen quest that starts in Ashenvale, it reveals that the worgen came to Azeroth via the Scythe of Elune. It made its way to Duskwood, and if I recall correctly that's how those worgen there arrived. A human found the scythe and used it, though didn't know what it was or what it would do. Some of the worgen in Silverpine come from the same place, but were summoned by Arugal. The villagers of Pyrewood Village however are affected by a spell, and at night they all turn into worgen. I'm thinking the playable worgen are going to play more into that storyline than have any relation to the worgen in Duskwood or Ashenvale.

From what I remember, there's two types of Worgen:

1) Beings from another world/plane, much like the Orcs and Draenei. These are always in Worgen form, and were summoned to Azeroth by the Scythe of Elune.

2) Humans that are cursed to turn into Worgen at night. Basically, they're werewolves. In Cataclysm, presumably the people of Gilneas will be this type of Worgen, and they'll retain their basic humanity in Worgen form.

You shoulda asked me about it! I guess I assumed you knew :tongue

I should update mine because since I first posted my characters, I've added a few more, though I haven't played hardly at all in the last 3 months. Pretty much got my characters into epics, then stopped playing them. Druid is the main I've played this expansion, Hunter was Burning Crusade, and the Warrior was original WoW.

! Going affliction as my main in 3.3 though, since it'll be awesome-sauce. I like my felpuppy more, and I hardly ever see affli anymore either. Dots, moar dots!

Did my first ToC 25 last night. We got up to Anubarak, but we had to quit after the 3rd try. We got halfway through the 3rd phase, but then he enraged. thank goodness for TankSpot, otherwise I wouldn't have done as well as I did (only messed up...twice! Darn twins.)

I'd just returned from a hiatus, so raiding was amazing

! I got two pieces of gear, a belt (which is the best belt in the game right now, according to our guild's leading warlock) and a nice robe (so I don't have to buy my chest tier yet! woohoo!).

Worgen: Definitely going to play one. Mr. KA Smith is correct about the different kinds of worgen.

Mages for NE: The general opinion, I believe, is that the High Elves have returned to Darnassus and are having political relations with the Night Elves. This brings the arcane magic stuff back into Night Elf culture. It's been so long that some of the Night Elves might not see it as dangerous anymore.

I don't know if I remember that correctly, but you can read it on wow.com and various lore sites around the internet

My husband and I both play on Cenarion Circle. We are both confirmed altoholics!
So, my mains are Taawni, 80 tauren druid, Zanibah 74 troll DK, and Zandrama 72 undead warlock. I have many other characters both horde and alliance side, but they're all lowbie rp alts. I can not WAIT for Cataclysm though, with its troll druid. *happyness*
