Hi fellow writers. Feeling like a real Newbie here. I saw a website called Lulu, which says it is free to publish. Are these for ebooks or a place to simply list your titles? Is this an "ok" way to market a book and is it just for self publishing one's own books?
I feel so naive asking this...any help is welcome.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ebooks and various sizes of POD. It is free to publish, but if you want distribution outside of lulu, you'll need to buy an ISBN. However, lulu makes it all very easy, the books are attractive, and it's an excellent resource if you need a few copies for beta readers. There are quite a few threads here on lulu, and lulu itself has extensive forums. (Click on the "community" tab on the main lulu page, and you'll see it.)

If you own the ISBN and you're the registered publisher, you can use it and sell books through lulu, however, you can't buy any distribution packages unless you obtain the ISBN through them.

Thanks, Julie,
Hmm, distribution packages being limited to using their ISBNS might be a deal breaker for me...but thanks. I'll look further into it.

Last time I checked, there were two different distribution packages. "Published by Lulu" and "Published by You" or something similar. The first one has the advantage that Lulu deals with distributor info for Amazon for example. You could pick the other package if it's still around, but personally I never thought being your own publisher had much advantages in distribution.
