Does this sound like a good start?

I'm thinking of starting my story off with the Characters car overheating. Then since she doesnt live far, she decides to walk home....Then I'll go from there. I started a story but it was said it sounded a little juvenile for an 18 year old. So I'm going to make her older and go from there. It's going to be romance/drama.

Well her best friend Shelly's cousin(male) is home from Iraq and she is going to be late for the welcome home party. The three grew up together.
And the cousin will fix Gwen's car. He will admit that he's been in love with her for a long time, but never said anything because she always had a boyfriend. Now she's single. He's seen how short life is, seeing other soldiers get killed.
The two get together eventually, he has to go back to Iraq. She finds out she's pregnant. He get killed in Iraq, and she's faced with raising the baby as a single parent.

Just a note, in romance readers like a happy ending. I'm not sure if you are gearing this towards romance or another genre. It's a hard to sell a romance with a unhappy ending. There was a thread here somewhere about this recently. If you look back a couple of pages you may be able to find it.

Well its will be hard for her at first, but she realizes that his legacy will live on thru his son. Maybe I could have one of his friends step in and be a father figure for the child?

That could work, they could strike up a romantic interest together.

I was wondering if that could work. Thanks for your input. It is greatly appreciated! I think I will go with what we discussed.

I honestly think that's a very deep storyline and one that could work very well. Best of luck to you :)
