Okay, lots of annoyances occurring on my computer.

First, firefox. I made the mistake of messing with the plugins too much, and now the download window IMMEDIATELY clears the file when done downloading. Then I have to go find the folder I saved to and dig up the file. It used to leave everything there. I've messed with settings, downloaded ANOTHER plug in (and another, heh), messed with settings more. I can't get it to keep a list of files!

Next, certain programs (img editor, firefox again, but not MS Word) are doing odd things with the open/save dialogue box. The folders are all at the end or in the middle or I don't know what the heck is where and it's not alphabetical either. Please please please tell me there is a quick fix for this. My tolerance for random stupid things changing is very very low ;)

And I have AVG antivirus and I could prolly benefit to run my adaware program. Will prolly do it now, while I'm thinking of it.

Cheers

This should fix the problem of the download window disappearing immediately:

Go to Tools --> Options. In the Main tab, there is a section titled Downloads. Make sure the check box is ticked for having the download window visible when files are downloading, and that the check box below it for causing the window to close when downloads are completed is not ticked.

To get it to keep a list of what has been downloaded, go to the Privacy tab under Tools --> Options. The first section there is titled History. Tick the box for "Remember what I've downloaded".

For Windows XP (I don't know whether things are in the same place for Vista):

On your Open/Save dialog, look at the top right for an icon that looks like a window with a downward-pointing triangle beside it. Click that and chose Details.

Now your files should be listed with column headers. Click on the Name header to put them alphabetic order. You may get reverse alpha first. If so, just click Name again.

Once you have them in the proper order, you may, if you like, go back to that icon and choose List, to display just the filenames without any other information, or Icons, to display them as icons.

Yay, you people are great. Elara, it was the second one that was causing me trouble.

Now, why isn't my gmail notifier working? *sighs*

And ad-aware found nothing but cookies...
