Hi Jennifer and welcome.

Many newcomers to the writing game fret about their work being stolen. It's simply not going to happen to an unpublished author and is a relatively rare event for a published one. Put it out of your mind and focus on improving your craft and learning about the business side of writing: researching markets, proper submission procedures etc.

You'll find information on every aspect of writing here at the Cooler.

Behind you!
Jennifer, can you stand one more welcome? Because you're getting it.

Put your mind at ease about theft of your work--it's extremely rare. Remember, upon being saved to a fixed medium (paper, your hard drive...), your work is copyrighted.

Next time you have a moment to yourself, check out the many boards here that will be of particular interest--Children's Writing, Horror, and Erotica--plus Share Your Work, where you can post pages and receive critical feedback that's highly instructional without making you feel like a dope. (That's the best critique, IMO.)

Terrific to have you join us.

I'd also use the search feature up above. If you're thinking of self-publishing or print-on-demand, be sure to check all the threads dealing with the pros and cons here. That's a very thoroughly exposed topic here. Uncle Jim's thread is a great overall learning place. It will take a while to read, but it's well worth it.
