Cutting a film clip from a DVD, putting into PowerPoint?

Hello all,
I'm presenting a piece of film studies at a few conferences in the upcoming weeks and a short scene from the film I'm analyzing (David Fincher's Zodiac) would really, really help emphasize one of my points.

However, I can't find it on the internet and time is scarce, I don't know if I can afford to bring in the DVD and find the scene, etc. I tried a few software programs to cut the clip and export it, but the file type is always very awkward (.rmx) and won't upload onto anything, including on the internet.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

This sounds like it might be more along the lines of Tech Help, so I'm going to scoot it over there for you and hopefully you'll get some help on it.

In other words....I'm clueless.

If time is scarce, it's probably too late to start. Could you make do with a series of still shots?

I'm not sure how to get screengrabs from the DVD either, otherwise I would. Any idea on that?

You have a DVD player. And you obviously have a computer. What you need is a way to CAPTURE the film to your computer.

SOME DVD playing software will allow screencaps of the images. Check your computer to see if the 'help' section of your particular DVD playing software doesn't already allow screencaptures.

Otherwise, you'll need a capture card, or a converter to get the files into your computer.

Of course, if you can play the DVD and you know exactly where the clip is, a few minutes of practice and you could load up the DVD on your computer just before the presentation, then move to the clip location, and then pause it... ?
