The couple I've known drew no salary, but earned a percentage. One made almost nothing because the play closed in, I think, twelve days, and the other became stinking rich. I don't know what the norm is, either in method or amount of pay on Broadway, but by and large, if a play of yours makes it to Broadway, you won't be hurting. And it's "playwright," not "playwrite."

I don't know if they ever pay an upfront fee or not, but a percentage of the ticket sales is always done.
