Does anyone know, or know where I could research, what percentage of novel sales comes from Amazon vs. brick and mortars? I'm thinking I've heard that Amazon account for 3% or 10%, but I can't recall where I heard that or which one it was.

I'm trying to convince someone that just because Lulu did a bang-up job on my genealogy book, it's a bad idea for a novel. They seem to think Amazon accounts for a great percentage of novel sales.

According to the last stats I saw (in Publishers Weekly, I think, for 2004), the Internet accounts for less than 10% of all book sales. Brick-and-mortar bookstores account for around 50%.

Physical bookstores are closer to 60% than 50% of book sales. Another huge chunk of sales (larger than on-line) comes from book clubs.
