MS-Word: Screen page layout

If you're in Word2003 (or earlier) find the drop box with a percent in it. Probably next to the backwards paragraph and the help circle. This is the view percentage. When you open the drop box, it'll have a bunch of percentages and also ones like page width, full page, etc. Set them both at the same percent/ setting.

(Another way to get there is go to View--> Zoom. The View menu also sets whether you see the page in Normal or in Print Layout. The first has no headers or footers, the second roughly shows you what the printed page will look like.)

In Word 2007, this is under the View Ribbon, go to the Zoom grouping. You'll see a zoom button which, when clicked, will open to allow you to change the zoom. (Also Word2007 has put a zoom slider on the bottom right corner of the Word window. Move it back and forth to adjust the zoom.)

Often times a document will keep the last zoom it had. Sometimes it gets goofed up if Track Changes was used (with the balloons, as it makes the text smaller per page to keep the page layouts the same.) Or if you have a task pane open on the right side of the doc. But I think the zoom controls will likely fix the problem.

You also want to be sure that text wraps in Normal view, so you don't get stuck with horror-zontal scrolling
