Read through the exercises at the bottom of December Quinn's blogs. I re-read the series yesterday (third time) and got some great ideas, but I'm not sure what you would think was appropriate.

I'm online irregularly these days. (My computer is ailing big-time, and I have to wipe the hard drive clean or turn it into a planter-cum-hat stand.) But I'll try to get online with any ideas I find floating in the dark recesses of what I laughingly call my mind.

The practice threads are taking up a lot of the SYW forum. I think they are a good thing, but maybe we should (meaning Mac) create a second erotica forum for them. You could then sticky a post at the top of the forum that links to each thread in sequence, so they are always easy to find.
As for future topics, how about fetishes? Or dirty sex? What about all the poll results that haven't been done?

I am open to a separate SYW for practice threads, but I might add that the reason I do them is to keep an active board. I think I could argue successfully that we have a much more active board since the practices began.
Point of fact, 2.4 per month in 2008 before the threads and 10 per month in 2009 with them (6.3 if you take out the threads). If you were to include that the practice threads average 3 to 4 submissions per week, that drives the number up further.
I personally believe an active board benefits all of us.

How about another thing with the same scene, two genres? I wanted to do that one, but the tax audit froze me up, I couldn't think of anything to do with it.
How about two versions of the same short sex scene or paragraph, from different POVs?
How about a sex scene with the POV being that of someone who observes but does not participate?
How about a scene consisting entirely of a character undressing himself or herself while a partner watches?
How about a scene set in a time and place the author has never written in before?
How about a scene which must use three specific plot aspects, settings, situations, characters, or props, decided by our mod, such as [wedding night, Texas, lingerie], [couple in their seventies, bad temper, ham sandwich], [gay couple, the ocean, hot coffee], or [a pet, an important work decision, handcuffs]?
How about super short, with a really low word count, like 100 or 150? A real challenge to windbags like me.
How about a bookended story in which the first sentence is identical to the last?

Thanks for asking. My computer is indeed fixed, although I keep finding things which are different and annoying. Obviously I got my preferences for Word and other programs set just the way I liked them, but now that it's reinstalled and using default settings, I have no idea how I did certain things. Undoing some of those defaults is maddening. Damn it, Bill Gates, I know what I want more than Microsoft does--stop dumbing it down and handcuffing me with your paternalism.
(I miss WordPerfect, which showed all the code, so you could immediately see why something was screwy. I wish it had become industry standard.)
I also found the installation CDs for everything except Anagram Genius, so if you want an anagram of your erotica, you'll just have to ask someone else.

A scene with two people harboring secrets. Important secrets that would change everything if the other were to find out.
A scene written in second person. Why? Because it would be a great challenge (I think) to write it well, without it sounding cheesy or instructional.
A scene where the character's thoughts don't match their actions.
A scene with lots of violence, but the violence isn't directed at the other person. (I'm not sure how to explain this one . . . He slammed into her, she exploded, that sort of thing)

It really does depend on what I am writing (style/genre).
I am gonna post an older story of mine in Erotic Share Your Work and maybe even Fantasy Share your Work... I have been working on it off and on tightening up stray lines, changing up His Language a bit... its a LONG short story. I have been toying with writing another part to it from the Heroines Perspective, but that has been languishing at about 15 pages and everytime I go back to it I can't move it.
