Okay, I recently sent off a e-query to a pretty nice agent, one that I would like to have. My problem is the query letter wasn't finished and it was my kids who had sent it, I was in the middle of composing it. It does not have the full synopsis, word count, or contact information other than my name at the bottom.

1. Do I send in the proper query explaining what had happened with apologies?

2. Do I chalk this up as a major screw up and just continue on down the list of agents? (I've been leaning toward this one because I feel so stupid for sending an incomplete query letter even though I wasn't the one to hit send, I am ultimately responsible for it.)

You've got nothing to lose by resending the proper query, with a brief explanation of what happened the first time. Agents understand about kids. ;)

Seems to me you have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain by trying.

EDIT: Chaos Titan beat me to it. :)

I don't think you have anything to lose and there's a cute factor that might make an agent stop and grin.

This person is now my agent.

Best of luck,

Thanks guys, I think I will resend the query because I'd really like to have a proper shot with this agent.

In the future, perhaps you could not type in the agents email address and just compose until ready to hit send? Or paste your query from a document into the body of the email once you're ready? That way it won't go out accidentally. I do the former quite often to prevent accidental sends.

That's a really good idea Aebekah, I think from now on I'll paste the e-mail address at the top of the e-mail I'm composing, then move it when I'm ready to send it off.

Resend. It's not like we don't make mistakes either. "Attachment disorder" is mine.

Turns out the agent isn't even with that agency anymore so it didn't even matter, how ironic is that?
