I’m reworking my proposal for a non-fiction personal development book and I’m also trying to come up with a new title. I need something that’s simple yet riveting, and original. I came up with over 100 ideas but nothing has jumped out at me and this is the only thing keeping me from moving forward.

I was wondering how you all come up with title ideas. Any special tips or tricks? I’ve been trying to force myself to come up with ideas, but it’s just not working.

Thanks for your help!

I wouldn't spend any more time on thinking of your title--it's only a working title, anyway. Your publisher will likely change it (at least a couple of times). Good luck!

Yeah, I totally understand that the title might be changed by the publishers, but I feel I need something that really intrigues agents.

My suggestion is to make sure it has some elements of what you are writing about in the title, to make it easier for anyone searching for the subject. Even if your book is called What color is your parachute? the sub-title is still A practical guide for job hunters and career changers.

Maybe you could Google words that you would like people to search for if they are looking for you book and see if that sparks anything for you in the sites that come up.

But, as Lauri B said, don't sweat it too much. It might take your mind off writing for too long. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips! I'm really considering a short title, and then a subtitle that explains the book more.

I'm taking a break from writing right now since I just reworked the book proposal and sample chapters. So it's just the title that's keeping me from moving forward.
