Treatment for a concussion.

Yes, you'd split the skin when hitting the head with someting that hard. Head wounds bleed quite a bit. Hit the person hard enough and he'll be unconscious. Hit him harder and he'll be dead.
They probably didn't have any treatment for the concusion. They'd wrap a bandage around his head to stop the bleeding and hope he's all right.

Very true. My father was closing the trunk of the car and banged his head. Tiny cut. Not even worth a bandage. He was amazed at how much it bled!

The skin isn't always broken when hit by a blunt instrument like a pan. There certainly would be a big lump under the skin, and often some bleeding into the tissues between the skull and the skin. It often feels quite boggy when you push on it. As far as treatment goes, we don't do much for them these days except observe for worsening and intervene if that happens. Common symptoms after a concussion are persistent headache, a day or two of vomiting, ringing in the ears, mood swings, easy fatigue. Typically there is memory loss of several minutes before the whack on the head and some minutes following. It varies quite a lot.

Likely rest, rest and more rest. And they would probably know they should keep waking the person up on a regular basis.

Thinking about a concussion makes my head hurt...and the one I had was a result of falling off a horse, and I was even wearing a helmet! A frying pan, yeah that's going to really hurt. (Sorry, very tired and going off topic)

I think the treatment back then would depends largely on who this person was. A pampered merchant or noble class youth would be put to bed most likely if he was dizzy or whatever. A peasant or military person would probably be expected to carry on unless they couldn't actually stand up or anything.
