Newbe and basicly lost on what to do next

Unfortunately, if you are serious about publication and writing, learning basic grammar and spelling is important--even something as simple as using spell-check. As writers, we are responsible for our words and how we present them to others.

Having folks in a Uni literary department look over your work isn't a bad idea. I'd also suggest posting a section of it in this board's Share Your Work forum, just to get some unbiased feedback.

If publication is your intent, get feedback first. Revise it as best you can, then start researching literary agents who represent children's books. AgentQuery.com is a good place to start. Write a query letter (info on that can be found at AQ, as well as Share Your Work/Query Letter Critique) for your book and start submitting.

If you have stories that can stop tantrums, your book will be very popular with parents.

So what is your background? You do seem to have some trouble with grammar and sentence structure but that could be fixed by a good editor. Do you want to be an artist or a writer. There are very few people who do both as publishers usually decide what kind of artist they want for a particular work. Breaking in is hard. Very hard. Much harder than getting a Masters Degree in Aerospace Engineering. Orders of magnitude harder...

I had to quit school in the 10Th grade and get GED to go in the army to help pay bills around my folks house. I have been working hard every since. I look at this writing and illustrating as I would an apprenticeship for a craft. I think writing and art work are a craft. So I am the apprentice starting out and people like you all are the journeymen of the craft. So I look for and greatly appreciate the journeyman's impute and guidance in the ways of the writer. It sounds to me like you have a great attitude about writing. From your post, it seems that you are interested in this because you love to do it, not because you are looking to get rich quick. Because if that is what you are looking for, then forget it. There are far easier ways to make a living (professional basketball comes to mind .)

You're right; writing is a craft. And because of that, you need to work at it. A lot! Additionally, it is necessary to face a lot of rejection.

But like Tom Hanks says in "A League of Their Own": "It's the hard that makes it great."
