I'm looking for examples of people that have given up everything in the name of love. For example: Paris destroyed his nation in the name of love for Helen, Prince Edward gave up his thrown for his love.

I would appreciate real life examples (not fictional characters) from the past and present of both men for women and women for men, especially the latter because I can't think of any.

Appreciate your input, and if you know the time frame, that would help.

Thanx

There was a thread either in historical or here in research on famous lovers/couples - there was an extensive list (probably here since c.e. didn't remember it being definitely in historical either). That's been within the last year, possibly six months. You might want to try to find that and see if any meet your parameters. Puma

Michael - I thought of one when I was waking up this morning that fits your requirements - women giving up for men - Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco. Puma

General Boulanger, who was the leader of a conservative clique in France in the very end of the 19th century. His followers wanted him to overthrow the republic and become a military dictator, but at critical times he went off to be with his mistress, instead of overthrowing the government.

I recall there was a German Field Marshall named Von Blomberg who was forced to resign by the Nazi government because his wife had made pornographic films. He did this rather than annull the marriage. This was in 1937 I think.

Check out Dante's Inferno, the Second Circle - the Carnal.
The most famous pair are Paolo and Francesca.
