I know the general things about it, but does anyone live there or has anyone been there? Mostly I want to know these things:

wildlife - I know there are red squirrels. Are there any wolves? What other wildlife inhabits the island?

forests - are there many? what trees can be found? are the forests heavily wooded?

how fertile is the earth? where is it most/least fertile?

what's the general climate?

and anything else about the island anyone knows.

Wolves? Er, no, no wolves. Normal wildlife for the south east UK ( except they still have their red squirrels) So foxes, rabbits, badgers etc. No deer though.

Not huge amounts of woodlands. Same kind of trees as the rest of the South East I think ( ash, beech, oak, sycamore etc) though they do still coppice hazel iirc

Fertility - not sure tbh.

General climate same as South East - ie mild temperate. Rarely any snow. Winters are usually more wet than cold.

Most of the IoW is chalk downland, so reasonable grazing. Not heavily wooded. They grow a fair bit of garlic on the island. They claim that the island gets more sun than the rest of SE England http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ventnor though I'm a bit sceptical
