Can anyone tell me the best places to look for happenings in 1909? I've looked under almanacs and a few heading like that, but am not finding what I need. I need it for comparing/contrasting with March of today for an article concerning someone who is turning triple digits.

I have learned that a stamp cost .02 and federal spending topped out at 69 billion.

I don't think the Bob Evans birthday cards - Remember when or whatever they're called - still go back that far, but I suspect they might have when they were first out. You might try tracking those cards to see who puts them out and whether they had a 1909 - if they did, I suspect they'd be tickled to help you.

If you have a specific locality you're looking at, you could put the locality name and state within quotes and the year in a Google search to see what you find. Google also has an archive of old news articles. Doogs posted it in the historical genre forum with the link within the last several (to 6) months, so you might see if you can find that post and take a look.

Our newspaper sometimes has a "on this date in history" filler - you might check your newspaper to see if they have access to that information and where you could look to find the "mother lode".

Hope these suggestions help a bit. Puma
