I'm still trying to understand the beats of rising action in the second act. I try toescalate action, but I always seem to "repeat the beat." Can someone explain it for me, please?

Thanks!

Spro - it's a little difficult to explain but think of it this way. The closer you get to your climax - the more suspense you are trying to build. Therefore - the beats are placed closer together (the pace increases) the stakes are raised, the obstacles appear insurmountable, the complications and jeopardy are increased.

If it's a race against time - time is running out - every moment begins to count - a dead car battery several miles away with minutes remaining to get to the site of the bomb is far more serious than a dead battery days or hours before the bomb is set to detonate. Every action your character takes has greater consequences as you get closer to your climax.
