Pencil Marks

Looking for a word...if there IS a word:

What are the leftover pencil marks called. The ones that need to be erased after inking?

Are they just called "pencil marks" or is there a special term?

Don't think there is a term, at least that I've heard. I just call 'em "pencils." (vs "inks" and "finished pages")

And if you do them with a non-photo blue pencil, you don't have to erase.

"Pencils", "original line work" and "sketch marks" are the phrases I've heard my artist friend use when describing them. There's a lot of ways to refer to them. Any I think are appropriate.

Thanks for the help. I think the term "pencils" will work fine, in context.

As in: "Hey, don't forget to erase your pencils when you're done, since you didn't use non-photo blue."

Or something like that.
