I thought we could share some horror humor. Might break the dool dumbs of the day. Have a good day....;)

A vampire bat came flapping in from the night; face all covered in fresh blood and parked himself on the ceiling of the cave to get some sleep.

Pretty soon all the other bats could smell the blood and began hassling him about where he got it. He told them to go away and let him get
some sleep, but they persisted until he finally gave in.

"OK, follow me", he said and flew out of the cave with hundreds of bats behind him. Down through a valley they went, across a river and into
a huge forest. Finally he slowed down and all the other bats excitedly milled around him, tongues hanging out for blood.

"Do you see that large oak tree over there?" he asked.

"Yes, yes!!" the bats all screamed in a frenzy.

"Good" said the first bat, "because I didn't!"

When I was a kid, I collected "Spook Cards" -- here's an example:

They were bubble gum cards with pictures from old Universal horror movies with a goofy caption. On the back were jokes -- pretty lame, mostly.

Example:
Q: why is that ghost wearing an Indian war bonnet with her sheet?
A: she's dressed to kill.

And yes, I have almost the complete series. Other kids collected baseball cards, but not me.

There were two series, I think 60 in each. I have all of the first series, about 110 in all.

I also have Outer Limits, Munsters, James Bond, The Beatles... and a load of cavities from all that gum.

If I'd only kept my comics...

HoraceJames,

Do you remember Phony Ads? They were along the same lines and came out in the early 60's along with those monster cards.

They had phony ads such as "Hurts Rent A Car: and drive yourself crazy!"

Wish I'd kept them as they seem to be extremely rare. I mean Honus Wagner rare.

Besides those Phony Ads, my Monster Cards inspired me into thinking monster movies were fun. Along with a few other life-defining experiences, they helped change my whole outlook on horror (icky bug).

I don't have a particular horror themed joke, but my original draft of The Greenhouse had a lot of humor. I was advised to take a bunch of it out because it wouldn't fit solidly in the horror genre. I've revamped it and though a lot of the subtle humor is still there, the story's a bit darker now, and hopefully scarier. Of course, to me it's tongue in cheek scarier.

When I was in college, I used to have a collection of jokes from Tales from the Crypt. There were two or three small books in the collection. I used to love those jokes!

Q: Why did the early Christian missionaries go to cannibal tribes of Borneo?
A: To give them their first taste of Christianity!

Cannibal jokes rock!

I love cannibalism! I think of all the subjects we look at as horror writers, cannibalism is one I understand a bit better. I mean, who hasn't looked at somebody and thought, "wow, I'd like to eat them!"

I'm currently starting work on my second novel. The first is done and will be re-written when the second is finished. My third will be about cannibalism. Nom Nom Nom!
