I've got a question: When writing a screenplay and using a large exterior scene such as a carnival, how do you break up the scenes? For example...I've got ext. Carnival-Day. Now do I describe the area in general? How would I write a different scene for a different location? Sorry if this is confusing.

For example..I want to write a scene at one of the rides.. How would I do this? Or should I just make an interior scene then go back to exterior?

I would write it as the general location being the Carnival and then if they go inside the different tents have it be Bumper Cars, Fun House, Haunted Ride, and so forth. On the action lines I would do a quick describe of where they're at, or use mini-slugs. Like:

EXT. CARNIVAL - DAY

Harry walks between the carnival a loud crash startles him by the

FERRIS WHEEL

The giant wheel growls at the crowd as it falls off its hinges and careens down into the freak house, crushing the people inside.
