Querying agents who rep picture books

If you're querying an agent who reps picture books, do you send the whole text in the body of the query? Would that make the query more of a cover letter?

I'm guessing this would be OK as long as the text is within normal limits for a picture book. . .but haven't tried it yet!

The agent should have guidlines on their site as to what they want with the query.

Right. Check the guidelines.

The manuscript though shouldn't be included in the body of your query letter. If the agent is asking for the full manuscript, it should come after your cover or query letter, beginning on a separate page. (if this is a paper submission) Hope that helps!

e-mail submissions should have the MS following the query in the body of the same e-mail. I've seen only one agent in about 100 who wanted the writing sent as an attachment.

Like they said, follow the agency guidelines.

Yes, yes, of course all that makes sense. The agency in particular I was looking at did say include the whole MS, I just missed it since I have a novel MS waiting on a response/rejection and for that they only wanted the first X pages. Didn't notice the picture book guideline right above the fiction one
