It's not so much that it's done but that I absolutely love it. My chapter readers have really enjoyed it, too, and tomorrow I will start the edits, but for now...

(Last I checked, Oxford recognized that as a real word...then again, what don't they recognize as a real word?)

Finishing the first draft of your manuscript is defiantly something to be proud of. I'd say 90% of aspiring writers don't make it to that point, so you've got a leg up.

Time for edits, edits, and more edits. Soon betas, betas, and more betas. Rinse and repeat.

I've done this so many times, and if I dread the edits, I know it's crap. I read it again, and then I prove that it's crap. This time... I'm forcing myself to go to bed and do it tomorrow because I would probably not sleep if I started.

Uncle Jim has given you (and all writers) permission to write badly as long as you promise to go back and edit it.

He made a PDF file of the certificate...I can't seem to find it, but yeah. It's good advice.

Finishing it is a large brunt of the battle.

Editing is fun. It's the bit where you get to pretend the MS is someone else's work and you're the editor. Nothing more satisfying than cutting out a rubbish sentence and replacing it with something that sounds a hundred times better.

Congratulations!!!

Enjoy the feeling. Give yourself a treat and a pat on the back. Enjoy today and you might want to take a break, write a short story, read some books on editing, anything to remove you from your story for a short while so when you go back to edit, you have fresh eyes.

Congrats! It's the best feeling to finish a novel. It's the toughest part for me, I love starting and writing novels and usually get bored before I finish it off. Forcing myself to get to 'the end' is so rewarding.

I realized some time ago that I have an "expiration date" on projects. With this one, it's taken me exactly one month to do the first draft - I started it on January 12th. (See? THIS is why I love spreadsheets!) When it began, I was crankin' out a chapter a day (at 6000+ words per chapter), but right before Chapter 9, I had to not work on it for a day... I can't even remember what it was, but it was three or four days before I could write anything else on it. And then, I got through Nine, sorta started Ten... had to stop again. I hadn't touched it in a few more days, and then Eleven began a few nights ago and I wrote Twelve that night, then Thirteen and Fourteen the next night...

I've found that if I get bored with the story before finishing it, it's probably going to be crap anyway. This one... I can't get away from it (as in, don't wanna). That makes me happy!

I think if you do it in L33t, as in, "w00t!!" - Oxford might take issue with that.
