Did anyone else notice that in the New Orleans hospital, Daisy's daughter was shocked to discover that her mother, Daisy (Cate Blanchett) had been a ballet dancer?

This shock seemed a little odd bearing in mind we were shown Daisy's daughter aged 15 (about 30 years before) at her mother Daisy's ballet dance school.

Surely Daisy's daughter would have realised her mother had been a ballet dancer?

Did Mr Eric Roth do a boo-boo?

And that's a US$150m budget movie.

There's hope for us all!!!

When I saw it, I was under the impression that the daughter knew Mom had been a dancer, but not as high-level as she was. She expressed shock at the pictures of her in...was it Russia? "Mom, I've never seen these!"

She knew momma danced, just thought she was a local gal who ended up teaching.

I don't think she didn't realize her mother was a dancer, but that her mother was world-famous. She never saw those publicity shots, or her dancing at the royal ballet in London and Paris, etc. Obviously her mother never danced in front of her, so for all she knew, Daisy could just be some local dancer who couldn't make it and went into teaching.

You'd think that Daisy would have kept even a slight bit of contact from her friends in her old days as a world-famous dancer, but apparently not.

I think Daisy was a bit reclusive, considering her relationship with a person like no other. Nobody could possibly understand that.

It's not uncommon for athletes with career-ending injuries like that to "disappear," so to speak, from social circles.

I can see why. Imagine the sadness, frustration, anger and humiliation that could come with the devastation of such an injury while watching everyone else continue to do what you love.

Considering she didn't want Benjamin to see her so broken in the hospital, I doubt she would have wanted her still whole ballet friends to see her either. And considering her reaction to the younger woman swimming at the pool, I imagine she didn't want to see them.
