I would like to think of a more interesting way to introduce myself, but the combination of awkwardness and two hours of sleep just isn't making it possible.

I have been reading the posts on this board for the past week and am excited about joining in and sharing ideas and writings. The awkward part is that I have written practically nothing my entire life and I am 52. Now I have begun writing a memoir, something I have wanted to do for a very long time. But unlike a lot of people here, words have never flowed for me onto paper and after 6 weeks of attempting to write, I have only succeeded in producing two pages. But I do like the two pages and I enjoyed writing them even though at times I have spent three hours attempting to write and only produced two sentences. I tell myself that practice and time may allow me to speed up. (hope, hope)

I am looking forward to getting to know the people here a little and to participating in this group.

WHOOPIE!!!!! I think this will be fun! (and informative!)

That's a good question right now.
Welcome, Meadows_edge. A person's age has little to do with their ability to write. If you want to write, start now. Otherwise, you'll only be older when you do start.

Welcome aboard.

Don't worry about the low productivity rate. Writing is a little like riding a bike. In the beginning it can be a little wobbly and slow-going but once you get going, you'll practically fly.

Hi meadows, nice to meet you. As the others have already said, don't worry about your age. (Only yesterday I was reading about a lady of 84 who had just taken up abseiling.)

Like everything else, writing gets easier the more you practise,so don't worry about that either - just keep going and you'll get there.

Best of luck.

Hi Meadows--welcome! Don't worry about the age thing...I'm 50, and just started writing less than 2 years ago (and now have several publishing credits). Think Grandma Moses :)...success can happen at any age. And following your dream makes for an interesting journey, even if you don't ever find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

I'm 53 and just started seven months ago after some success 15 years ago. With tons of credits in the past, I'm still new to this once again, and feel like a babe in the dark woods. Confidence has come back, and it will with you. The longer the story the gets, the more involved you will become.

Welcome meadows.

Sounds to me like your Inner Editor is in hyper mode. Repeat after me:

"My first draft does not have to be publishable."

Don't agonize over the perfect word or phrase in the beginning. Just tell your story with the first words that come to mind. You can revise when you're done, or at least well into it. I think you'll find that before too long the dam will burst and those pages will add up quickly.

Good luck.
