Within the next two weeks, I am going to purchase a new computer (digital video workstation), which requires use of XP Pro 32 bit.

I have spent an enormous amount of time researching the intracacies of video workstations until it drove me mad. I need XP Pro 32 bit OS, as it is the plank/foundation for my future work.

But, I am now confused and getting a bit anxious, with Microsoft's recent announcement concerning the phasing in of Windows 7 and phasing out of XP.

I need to know if I can still purchase XP Pro 32 bit, and what the future ie. next 12-24 months holds for its use by the end user and its 'support' by Microsoft?

Anyone here able to enlighten me, and clarify the news coming from Redmond?

Thanks.

First of all why do you need XP?

It's availability is nearly nil for a high end workstation. What are you using that you need XP and not Vista? What digital video workstation are you planning to buy?

Right now...it's not the way to go.

Thank you both. Do you have any information concerning the second part of my question?:

what the future ie. next 12-24 months holds for its use by the end user and its 'support' by Microsoft?

You can get anywhat on eBay too. As for the "support", I survive handily without it. Some hardy survivors are still running older versions of Windwoes.

Hmmm...perhaps I've used the word incorrectly. I understand 'support' as continuing to maintain/produce it XP Pro 32 bit. (Perhaps your use is the stricter meaning...?) This is what I am trying to determine.

THIS (http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9070119)is a long article but will answer a lot of your questions

As Matera said regarding "support".The last time I Updated (by mistake), I had all sorts of problems with my video capture cards.
