Rep Points ?

I've been here for a few weeks now and have given and received some rep points. I want to know what the purpose is of them. I mean, it's nice and all, but I can't see a total on either my profile or anyone else's. I see my own when I go through my User CP, but that's it. Is there a place to look for them? I'm sure I must be missing something, so any help would be appreciated.

There's a total at the top of your User CP profile for your own.

As for someone else, you can't really get a count on their reps, but if it really matters to you, we can tell you how to partially tell how many reps someone else has.

Really though, here, reps are mostly just for fun or to say thanks or "good post". No one really cares all that much how many someone has. Some of us who have been around a while have thousands.

If you go into the FAQ area there are a couple threads on Rep Points.

They serve no functional purpose except that many of us use them as a way to communicate with others, let them know we like a post, or pass on other information.

And supposedly if you hover your cursor over the Posts: #### thing under your profile pic on the left side, you can see how many rep points people have. I personally can't get it to work, but that might be a problem with my firewall at work or the browser settings.

We've deliberately tried to remove or obfuscate the GUI aspects that specify the total number of points for anyone but themselves.

People got weird about it. Like it was a competition.

I think I mis-read something on another thread then, about rep points. I thought they were visible and that I was doing it wrong.

Hey, is there a way to give a rep back without going into the profile, finding their post, and clicking the scale?

If not, that's fine. I just wondered if there was an easier way I was missing!

Not really. Since the reps are post specific, then you have to send a rep from one of the person's posts.
