Which ones do you like best?

My personal faves are Anne Baker, Maeve Binchey, and dare I say ... Some Danielle Steele :) I also love Mary Higgins Clarke.

I tend to have favorite books rather than favorite authors.

Maeve Binchey, for example, wrote one of my favorite books (Circle of Friends) but I've not really formed an attachment to any of her other books.

There are however, certain authors who I love on the basis of personality. Douglas Adams is one. Neil Gaimen would be another. To settle in and listen to Douglas Adams reading one of his books is a little peace of heaven.

Roberta Gellis (still active); Fay Robinson (sadly, lost to us too young); Carolyne Aarsen; Eileen Wilks (and will be again if she ever gets tired of paranormals. Nothing wrong with paranormals but they're just not my thing); Judith Merkle Riley. I do like Jean Auel's prehistoric saga but does anyone note that she takes too bloody long to write a book??

How long does Jean Auel usually take to write a book?

I love Lisa Kleypas, Eloisa James, Kresley Cole, JR Ward, Catherine Anderson, Victoria Dahl, Mary Balogh, and a few others that I'm blanking out on at the moment.

YEARS. Her most recent book, THE SHELTERS OF STONE, came out in 2002. The previous one, THE PLAINS OF PASSAGE, came out in 1990.

Now I'm not the fastest writer on the planet, and Auel's stuff is meticulously researched. But TWELVE YEARS?!

Wow and I thought putting away a completed novel for two years before I looked at it again was a long time.
