Redundancy, thy name is Guideline!
Ashlee, each publisher has very strict guidelines for submission. As a general rule, they will request a manuscript that looks nothing like a finished book. They aren't interested in appearences at this stage. They don't want to see your table of contents, dedication page, or acknowledgements. Their foremost concern is your story.
They want a manuscript printed in easy to read fonts, (usually Times New Roman 12, or Courier 12.) with one inch margins on sides and bottom, 1-3 inches on top, and page numbers. (Each publisher will provide you with specific instructions. Follow them to the letter).
Follow the guidelines. (I can't say this enough) Please keep in mind that failure to adhere to submission guidelines is one of the most common reasons for rejection.
Take a few minutes to research your target publishers. Guidelines will be posted on the website.
