:Hammer: :Hammer: Can someone please tell me how I merge my files into one? I am using Microsoft works, word processor. Also, can the files be edited from the Adobe standard 7.0? Any suggestions, will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. ashlee111:Hammer:

Hi Ashlee,

I'm not a big wiz with computers but maybe I can offer sympathy and a little help? What are you trying to merge exactly? One file in Word with another file in Word? I am not sure about the Adobe stuff. Do a quick Google search using "Word" and "merge files" and see if there is a FAQ out there on how to do it. One thing I usually do when I can't get things to merge: I copy and paste stuff. Even from Adobe. If you cut and paste from Adobe into Word, you can edit the content.

As far as taking a hammer to your computer, it has been my experience that drop-kicking the computer off of the third floor balcony is much more therapeutic. :D

Good luck!

Hi Christie, Thanks for your suggestion. I will try that. I want to put my book together like this

1) book title

2)Dedication
3) Table of contents
4) introduction
5) start of actual manuscript

I want to put everything together, so that it looks like a book. When I start a new book, I do not have everything in it's proper place. I always start out with 'Chapter One, then add everything else in later.

Thanks,
ashlee111:Hammer:
PS. I still like the idea of the hammer:) But kicking can work, too.

Ashlee, are you putting this book together with intentions of submitting it to prospective agents/publishers?

What I need to do is merge my book into one file. 1)book title2)dedication3) table of contents.etc,etc. I want it to be in order. Yes I am submitting it to a publisher, for the editorial process. Is that necessary though, to have the book in order for the editorial process?
Thanks:Hammer: . ashlee111

Redundancy, thy name is Guideline!

Ashlee, each publisher has very strict guidelines for submission. As a general rule, they will request a manuscript that looks nothing like a finished book. They aren't interested in appearences at this stage. They don't want to see your table of contents, dedication page, or acknowledgements. Their foremost concern is your story.

They want a manuscript printed in easy to read fonts, (usually Times New Roman 12, or Courier 12.) with one inch margins on sides and bottom, 1-3 inches on top, and page numbers. (Each publisher will provide you with specific instructions. Follow them to the letter).

Follow the guidelines. (I can't say this enough) Please keep in mind that failure to adhere to submission guidelines is one of the most common reasons for rejection.

Take a few minutes to research your target publishers. Guidelines will be posted on the website.

To insert another Word document into an open document:

1. Click where you want to insert the second document.
2. On the Insert menu, click File.
3. In the File name box, enter the name of the file you want to insert.
4. Click Insert.
