David Green - Goes by the name 'Mr Green'. a human becomes williams mentor in a way, and helps him explore the supernatural world that he has just been forced into

Markcus and Alison Sampson - Williams twin siblings, over the course of the book, Mark becomes a werewolf, and Alison learns that she has the ability to manipulate ice.

Anne Walker and Blaze Walker. - Two Vampire siblings.

Leon Jackson - A teenager who can control plants.

Samantha Rosedale - A girl who can transform into animals.

So what do you think? Also what are the characters names in your stories that you are working on? i would like to know!

They sound great to me! I always have trouble with last names, nothing ever seems to work for me, but I usually pick a last name from celebrities as dull as that sounds!

My main characters are

Hana Fisher (last name taken from Jenna Fisher, I love her!)

Shelby & Ash Carter (last name from lil' wayne)

I find my names everywhere. Last names are usually easy for me, but first are very hard.

My MCs are:

Bianca Piper (Bianca is just a name I've liked since I first read THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, and it's fairly unique)

Wesley Rush (Wesley has been my favorite guy name since the character of Wesley was on the TV show Angel)

Casey Blithe (no idea why, but Casey just sort of came to mind as a wrote)

Jessica Gaither (mostly because the character, while adorable, is ditsy, and I thought of Jessica Simpson).

I'm horrible with thinking about last names, and first names really. I go on baby name sites for first names and if you google last names I found a really good side that I can find good ones on.

My characters for Black Diamond:

Rachael Palmer : MC, going to change her first name eventually

Cat Tenbrook : Rachael's best friend, helps her through her problems

David Palmer : Rachael's father and a big-name horse trader and breeder

Mark : he doesn't have a last name yet, head horse trainer and nearly ruins Black Diamond

For Andra most of the last names are Swedish words which is kind of strange. I may have to change that.

I like your names. I always have trouble with the last name of characters.

Andy Wilson (detective)
Angel Torini (witch)
Bryce Severin (demon/witch)
Celia Towers (witch)
Sierra Stevens (witch)
Jake Daniels (witch)

Those are just a few of mine. My fav is Bryce though, I just really like that name.
:D

-Juliet White(my MC), and her little sister
-Mia (short for Miranda) White
-Alex(ander) Reese
-Riley Everett (the boyfriend!)
-Kim(ber) Mitchell
-Jackie Barrett
-Mandy (Amanda) Penner
-Thea, Trey, Connor, and Zack. They don't have last names yet.
-Cain (he doesn't exist yet, but he will in book five!)
I love my names. Actually, I HATE Riley. I wanted to use absolutely ANYTHING else, because he is a bit like the Riley on BTVS, too much so to also share a name with him. But once I got the name stuck in my head, I couldn't use any other.

I love the name Blaze, though never seem to be able to find a character to attach it to. I detest trying to find suitable surnames, this time I've avoided them altogether except in 3 occasions where the characters only have surnames. So we have;
M6, my wonderful slave who will later become Medi when she gets herself sold.
Captain, oddly, the captain of the Waverider
Yummi, Captain's wife and ship cook.
Digits/Michael, my favourite member of the ships crew.
Navi/David, MC's love interest and ship navigator.
Scout, ship's lookout.
Cannon/Kaddy, delightful weapon's expert.
Sprocket, Pet monkey of Scout.

My 3 surnames are Raven, Garett and Hawthorn, they're my evil slave traders.

Your names are fine. Just as long as you don't go out on a rope and call one of them something way way out of context.

Eastwood

Cale, I'm really liking "Markcus" right now. The others are great as well, but that one stands out the most to me.

---

Anyway some names for one of my stories so far are:

-Euric Stanlin: (pronounced: Yer-rick). He's a junkie.
Robert J. "RJ" Stanlin: Euric's father.
-Rico Del Tor: Ex-gang member.
Talia Del Tor: Rico's wife.
-Lawrence "Larry" Weeks: Lonely middle aged man.
Patricia "Trish" Weeks: Larry's wife.
-Clinton "Clint" McQuarrie: Socially awkward office worker.
Seth McQuarrie: Clint's kid-brother.

I'm writing fantasy, so obviously I have a little wiggle room, and everyone's names are intentionally a little strange, but even considering all that, do you think it would be all right to have a nice normal girl named "Flax"?

to stunted... ummm i guess so. names arent really important, its the character that counts. but personally i would find it distracting if the charcaters name was flax. but thats only if she is the only one with an out there name. eg if all the characters are named "steve" and "bob" and then suddenly there is a "Flax" it would be off putting, but if all your charcters had a strange names then she would just blend in and it would be fine.
if you love the name and you think it suits your character then you should stick with it!!!

Samantha Rosedale - A girl who can transform into animals

Ooh, can I be her?!? Please?

What? You can't really turn into animals? For real?

Drat it all.

Anyway, that character sounds the most interesting to me. ;) And my MC's name in my MG WIP is Stacie Wooten.

The phone book solves all...well, sometimes. Most of my last names come from either people i've known or places.

A few of my last names and how I came up with them:
Waters (From Rodger Waters of Pink Floyd)
Bruley (A town that is in the area)
Edwards (First name of my english professor with an 's' on the end)

Aside from outlining plots (I'm odd), naming characters is my favorite part of writing a novel. I especially like naming characters from a nationality that works with Masculine and Feminine surname forms. The series that I'm planning takes place in various contries across Europe. My vampire canon is a bit complex, and I don't like having to explain it.

(Lithuania)

Ona Narvydaite - My dhampir MC. She can see the future short-term through her dreams. In the second book, she has the ability to see into the past. The dreams are clearer the closer she is to the location in which events took place. As the series goes on, her premonition gets stronger, allowing her to see further into the future.
Ben Narvydas - (He gets ticked off when people assume that 'Ben' is short for 'Benjamin', because it's really 'Benson') Ona's brother.
Will Narvydas - Ben and Ona's vampiric father.
Giedre Narvydiene - Ben and Ona's late human mother. Her murder is a huge part of the plot.
Audra Jankauskiene - Will's sister, thought to be the last elemental unknown to man (wordplay! :D). Bronius's wife. 'Audra' means 'Storm' in Lithuanian.
Bronius Jankauskas - he's got one of the most useless, annoying vampiric abilities: Teleportation.
Liudvikas - He's the main antagonist of the series, and a Psy-vampire. Will Narvydas's arch-enemy, responsibly for the murder of his wife.
Egle and Mykolas Narvydas - Will's parents; executed traitors.

(Romania)

Grigore Rom - He's like a grandfather to Ben and Ona, and a biological one to Manuel. Father of Richard Rom. Will's most trusted adviser.
Manuel Rom - The messenger. Has telekinetic abilities. Grigore's grandson, Creda's lover.
Creda - Half-Hungarian, actually. Has the ability to shift into a wolf. Her last name, Trelles, isn't discovered until the near end of the series (She's orphaned, and Will named her. It's a long, odd story.) Manuel's lover.
Ilona Trelles - Creda's mother, died shortly after giving birth.
Doran Trelles - Creda's biological father.
Bogdan - He's after Will's job.
Ricard Rom - Manuel's father. He's a fruitloop, but still; I do love alliterations.
Tatiana Rom - Manuel's mother, a little high-strung and crazy, herself.
Adrian Yonescu - The antagonist of the first book. The Gresit are trying to put him out of power to bring Liudvikas back, so that they can become strong, again.
Roxanna Zeklos - She used to participate in witchcraft when she was human, and brought her practices with her into the unlife, but was cursed to inherit the shadows of the humans she fed from; which is good, because she can bend them to her will, but bad because they're constantly driving her insane - especially the shadow of her former husband, who invades her romantic life.

(France)

Leon DuPont - He's the Gresit's ex-assassin. I like em' snarky.
Jacqueline DuPont - Leon's sister. Marcel's former maid.
Genevieve and Rousseau DuPont - Leon and Jacky's parents. I love saying 'Rousseau'.
Marcel - Like Liudvikas, he's so evil that his last name commited suicide. He probably used to have a moustache that suffered the same Fate (Ah, inside jokes! My characters have minds of their own). He might've been a pirate at one point.

(England)

Revelin Moore - Rev's father, who, due to refusing to give up immortality, is now only a few years older than Rev (The Moore Complex is named for them). His wife left him because of this. He is the 'Father of Individualism'. He doesn't have a very good relationship with his son.
Revelin Moore II- Called 'Rev' most of the time to prevent confusion. Becomes Jacqueline's lover by the end of the series. He's an inventor.
Mab - She's not very nice, and she needs a last name.
Dolan - Rev's personal pyromaniac, who also needs a last name. Something Irish.
Ammity Moore - A twelve-year-old human girl, taken in off the street by Rev against his father's will. They are very much like brother and sister. Rev is leary of his father being around her, because he still drinks human blood.

I know I have more, but I just can't remember them at the moment.

(Woah, this is long!)

I LOVE some of these names. I would really enjoy writing a historical (I don't know when!) book set in Europe, specifically Germany, Sweden(where I'm from, fbut I know nothing about the country whatsoever), or the general Baltic area. I think this is because I just read the Book Thief. But what I'd enjoy the most would be the names.
I'm in love with 'Aud' (pronounced 'odd') from watching BTVS, but I also like a lot of other traditional European names.

Your names are pretty good: unique enough to not be commonplace, but not so crazy you can't wrap your mind around 'em.

My names usually come pretty easily, but in some cases I have... problems.

Lessee... for my WIP Angelic I've got a couple names lined up:
Ayame
Martol (he's dead before the book starts)
Ewan/Isaiah (I'm leaning towards Ewan, but I haven't really found the name that fits)

For Sight I've got:
Djiro (originally Dgiro)
Cena (originally Seena)
Kaan
Nadia

For my WIP in hiatus, Seventh Magic, I have:
Archer Norheimsson (this WIP has surnames!)
Kya Evralas
Zan Lobrien
Rhianna Lobrien
...and various '-sson's and '-las'es
I actually had to change my surnaming conventions for SM; originally, guys' surnames were f' plus their dad's name, and girls were k' plus their mother's name, but for kicks I put my MCs names into that convention and discovered that "f'Archer" and "k'Kya" looked and sounded terrible. So I changed the males to dad's name plus sson and the girls to mom's name plus las. Random tidbits: my specialty. Heh...

I love names. Names are fun. I love naming characters.

@Ciera - Imma have a field day with Latin names in a later novel. :p

And I'm with you on the 'Aud-' boat. I'm not a fan of short 'A' sounds. I like exotic spellings and pronunciations, which my southern friends hate with a fiery passion. They say "Addra", "Geeder" (or "Geedruh"), and they are clueless as to how you pronounce "Rousseau" (it's Roo-soe, I think).

My substitute history teacher pronounced 'Marquis de Lafayette' as 'Mar-KWEES duh Laffy-it' :0. I wanted to kick babies.

@Lilli - The surname thing sounds awesome! I should really think about stuff like that when writing fantasy, instead of just adding 'e's before 'r's in surnames. Most of my made-up first names are combos of Latin and French names.

Aublaine Makre :)

My MCs are
Polly Andersen (Polly after a character in some Madeleine L'Engle books, although she says it's after the Nirvana song, and Andersen after Hans Christian Andersen),
her brother Will Andersen (Will after Shakespeare)
and Joy Stoppard (Joy is my niece's middle name, and Joy is loosely inspired by her, and Stoppard after playwright Sir Tom Stoppard.)

The main characters in my novel are as following:

Matt Johnson, the main character, who was studied in a lab by evil scientists and discovers that he has enhanced strength and speed.
Ben Zhydi, his best friend.
Eli Zhydi, Ben's older brother.
Anhalla Xhan, another of Matt's friends who tries to help him figure out what happened at the lab where he was expirimented on.
Dark, Blue, Jade, Stil, Wolf, and Haze: a group of teenagers with part cat DNA, who were made in a lab.

Are these names too ordinary or too strange?

And secondly, am I the only one who writes science fiction around here? Everything else seems like fantasy.

(P.S., I also think Blaze is an awesome name.)

No. I can't come out to play. My muse won't let me
I must be the only one that thinks Sampson is a sort of strange surname, going back to the original post. But I used to watch this old TV show. I want to say it was a cartoon where Sampson (The mythical being) was a character. I've just always associated with first names.

And Markcus reads a bit funny to me. In my head I'm reading Mark-kus. Unless that's how I'm supposed to read it :)

Some of the names I've come up with:

From the book I'm editing:
Sophia Anne Morales
Devon Marian Morales
Nicole Stiles (In response to a thread on the Nano forums asking us to remember Jon Stiles, a man who died last year in Iraq. She asked everyone to add him into their stories, no matter how minor the part.)

The book that's being written:
Justin Meyers
Kimberly Summers
April Summers
Rei Katsuguri

And secondly, am I the only one who writes science fiction around here? Everything else seems like fantasy.

I do write Sci-fi along with fantasy type stuff. One with extraplanetary beings with the following names:

Azralea
Dyiana
Sanya
Stellara
Liana

(Yes, the names on that planet have to always end with an "A")

And another Sci-Fi work about technology rather than aliens. On the back burner for at least a year. Let me see what I can dig up from it.

Michelle Roberts (Or Turner)
Mark Santana (I might change this to Matthew)
Rachel (I can't find her last name)
Patrick (Ditto.)
Naomi (Actually an acronym for Neo-Artifical Organically Mechinized Intelligence)
