Do you think Anakin is confident in himself or not? I can't figure it out.

I think we can all agree that he was arrogant...and he may have thought he was better than others....but I don't think that means he is self-confident.

The reason I think he might not be self confident is because he seems to care so much about what people think of him. That's a sign of insecurities. I think one of the main reasons he turned to the dark side is because the Jedi Council didn't trust him, and he couldn't tell whether Obi-Wan approved of him or not. He didn't feel loved or respected, so he turned to Padme and the Chancellor.

So what do you think? Is Anakin confident in himself?

Note: This is based off of what I know of Anakin, and I also read about his personality on Wookiepedia: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Anakin_Skywalker

I was also wondering if anyone else knows of fictional characters similar to Anakin. I've found one...and surprisingly, it was on an animated show called Avatar: The Last Airbender. The character is named Zuko. He has that same sort of demeanor. He is emotional...angst ridden...and a bit of a loner, but he is also very loving. He wants to love and he wants to be loved. He is also very honest. These are all traits that Anakin has.

Heck no. The bravado and swagger was compensating for a serious inferiority complex.

He was a self-confident person with one extreme insecurity: fear of loss.

You can't just paint him as insecure, because he emanates self-confidences...oozes of it actually.

He just had one major insecurity.

Well he may be self confident in his power...but he obviously didn't feel powerful enough. And I think he tries to appear confident as a cover up for his insecurities.

It's hard to say if he's truly self-confident or merely has a sense of entitlement, which isn't necessarily the same thing, and he suffers from an inability to think things through to the end, past his own personal garbage. Most, if not all, of his major decisions which bring him to becoming Vader are made out of fear, or seem to be.

Nah, I don't think he's insecure at all.

And the reason I say that is becaue of the way he acted in The Phantom Menace. He was a 9 year old boy who wasn't afraid to do ANYTHING. I mean, heck, he walked up to a girl almost twice his age and just matter-of-factly hit on her. I don't know grown men who have the confidence to do that.

His biggest flaw was a fear of loss.

His biggest flaw was being portrayed by Hayden Christiansen.

He killed the cute little baby jedis, so I don't like him anymore.
