I am looking for a market for a literary (very literary) story ca. 10,000 words. it has mythical elements but is not conventional 'fantasy'.
It's a bit of a genre bender in many ways, so I don't know where to start.
Any ideas would be highly appreciated - I have noticed there are many knowledgeable people around here.

Hello,
It's hard to answer with vague information provided but I suggest you check Ralan's out:

They have a pretty good grip on the speculative fiction short story market.
Hope this helps...

You can also ask at the Rumor Mill's Where Might I Submit This Story (http://www.speculations.com/rumormill/?z=80290)topic.

SpecFicWorld (http://www.specficworld.com/) has a good listing of markets. It does require a nominal fee to subscribe to the up-to-date listings, though. Another thing you might do is simply run an internet search on "speculative fiction guidelines" or something similar and start sifting through the results. You never know what gems you'll find that way.

There's also the literary journals associated with most universities.
