Poetry Forum Announcement! Please Read

You may notice while cruising through the poetry forum that Games and Exercises sub-forum is now empty and so is poetry discussion. We are going to get rid of those rooms, and they will be consolidated (all threads from those forums have already been moved) under the main poetry forum page.

Passwords will stay on crit and chapbook but everything else will be open and much more visible in the main poetry forum. We realized that for organization considerations we were sacrificing visibility and felt a change was in order. the official buttons haven't been pushed for those rooms to disappear just yet, but if you would like to post a thread that would either be a game or discussion from this point, please put them in the main forum. And you can find all of your favorite discussion and games threads in the main poetry forum now.
If you have any questions or concerns about the furniture being moved, please direct them to me or Rob.
I did move it all while Rob was sleeping, but hopefully he won't stub his toe in the middle of the night.

Well, poop. Now all the ones in the games are not password protected. I think I missed something. These are usually the ones I submit and get published. I will have to refrain from playing in the games area. C'est la vie.

Can't the games and such be put into the critique forum instead? They will remain lively. On the poetry forum main board they will probably drop out of existence.

Agree with KTC - I find the games prompt some of my best stuff in reply and then I want to go back and use it later. Games shouldn't be confused with pieces wanting crits, but a password - yes.

may i suggest kev that you delete them from the thread before you submit them?

i think this is a good move, but that the amount of stickies might have to be a lil bit reduced

guess I'll chime in too, I frequent the games section often and feel it should stay grouped together.
but I am also enthusiastic that this change may bring more exposure to our poetry section.

I knew we would have some issues, I just ask that you allow me some time to talk with Rob (he's still in bed, I think).

And for further thought: The forum used to operate this way without issue, and hopefully we can get back to that. The games, discussion and the majority of poetry posted were all in the main forum. Crit was the only thing locked.
We just didn't like poetry being locked in a backroom (which is how it was feeling) and wanted to make it more accessible and open to the rest of AW. But please allow us time to consider your suggestions and complaints. this has been discussed in various forms for a long time. We knew there would be folks who didn't agree. We are doing what we feel is best for the community. Let us see what we can do to make as many people happy as possible.

Regarding the stickies: yeah, as I was moving things I actually unstuck a couple of things, moved some stuck threads to other places and still have several to evaluate to determine if they should be unstuck. Working on it.

Also remember, that to find the games or discussion you want to return to, you can always subscribe to the thread so you don't have to search the forum for them.

Great point, GF. Yes...I can simply delete them prior to submitting OR post them in critique and then delete the post from the game.

Thanks, Trish...didn't mean to poopoo. I think it's a great idea that will hopefully bring more people to poetry here. Like Teena, I think some of my best stuff comes from the games...but it only takes a second to delete a post if I want to submit something.

The re-org (or, actually, re-re-org) was a hard decision, and I applaud Trish for making it. We both knew some marvelous poets would be unhappy with it, which is sad -- except that it means that people care about the forum. Which is wonderful.

Y'know, technically, the Chapbook might be a nice place for any new game-type threads that you wanted to keep hidden. Given that Chapbook poems are only there for sharing, it doesn't matter so much who's on the front page... right?

I love that the discussion is even happening. Fricken poets, you steal my heart every day.

I like this! I get alot of inspiration from KTC and don't want him to stop playing. AND it will keep poetry forum in general more open to peekers, lurkers, the curious and the shy. Nice compromise.

It is a great suggestion. Thanks, Rob. Yes, any new games you'd like to start can go in the Chapbook.

I'm not sure how i feel about digging all the games back out of the main forum and moving them again.Not because I oppose it, but because I'm lazy and my fingers hurt just thinking about digging through the room to excavate them.

What you've done is excellent. I'm not sure I'd want to move all the existing games into Chapbook -- it's just another option, I think, for people who want to start new games.

Trish and Rob, you've got my support. When I came back to visit this year, it was a bit overwhelming...wasn't quite sure where to go, and the main poetry forum seemed almost superfluous with all the special rooms. Hope it helps things out all around for those navigating here.
