OKay...I know drugs and alcohol addictions are serious problems in today's world, so what I want to know is...are "snorting crack" or "shooting heroin" okay to write, or do I need to come up with another means to describe the depressing state my main character goes through briefly in the story. She's not a user at all, but does go through a period of trying new things and drugs and drinking excessively are those new experiences to block out reality.
So....what is the best way to describe using drugs in a story that won't make readers frown upon my main character? AGAIN, the use is short and to the point-- I just need a few ideas about which is the better way.
THANKS!
