Howling with Wolves

Full Wolf Moon - January Amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. Thus, the name for January's full Moon. Sometimes it was also referred to as the Old Moon, or the Moon After Yule. Some called it the Full Snow Moon, but most tribes applied that name to the next Moon.

Singing to the moon

"and dance
by the light
of the moon".
it still gets me,
every time.
I'd lasso the moon
if rope could be bought
and sold in coils
so thick as to reach
such wondrous heights
as those white hollow orbiting rocks.
But the thought of doing it,
man, it lights my limbs with fire.
just to dance in its light
is enough to take breath,
and naked
would make all the difference,
our limbs glistening
in the hollow
and ghostly light.
And the snow would shimmer
under-foot. Stella, that grande dame,
that bitch would dance the light
fantastic in the cold still night.
and
dance
by
the
light
of
the
moon.

Hungry wolf cried moon
beacon gathered warmth anew
fleetness saved winter
