(I originally posted this in Office Party two days ago, and it was suggested I repost it here in Horror.)

A friend of mine loaned a comic book to me in the early 80s, but I don't know who made it, but the memory of it reminds me of the early EC horror comics.

It's about this married couple in their 50s. The husband hates his wife, so he kills her. She had a favorite tree in the yard, so he buries her next to it. A year later a new "fruit" bears on the tree in the shape of hands. So, now there are hands growing all over the tree like apples. He gets close to the tree one day and the hands grab him and kill him, then dig a hole next to his wife's grave and buries him there. The next year a "new fruit" grows on the tree, this fruit is the husband and wife's heads, side by side. That occurs in the last panel. It's an extremely creepy image that's haunted me for years.

It's a weird, twisted story that I can't forget. Does anyone remember having read it? If so, what was it?

And where can I find a copy?

Way out there
I read a lot of comics when I was young, but they didn't have any with horror stories then, as far as I know. Maybe you could ask the experts at some of the comic sites. If I were in the business, I'd keep up with everything just for new ideas. If you get ahold of one it'll probably turn out to be like House On The Haunted Hill when I was a kid. Scared the hell out of me then, but is actually funny.

Try scans_daily on livejournal (though you'll need to offer a scanned comic page to justify the post). There's a few people there posting bits of the classic horror comics, so there's a reasonably good chance you'll find your answer.
