a little smile
as I fade
to last a while
in the shade
of your grin
from the start
alas you win
all my heart

dabble in the sweetness
sticky hands
hold my face
during chocolate kisses

is there any food
in the smile you sell
the wintry world
while walking
wet and ill
across the slushy roads?
it lifts the haunted
and the hungry men
who linger
far too long
on concrete steps
for spring
to etch itself
in trees.
just a little
sweetness
worn across
your winter lips
will feed a multitude
of angels
and lift
a broken wing.
