I can't seem to phrase this any way that it doesn't sound awkward. I have a character on crutches; she's entering a room for the first time after getting a cast on her leg for a broken ankle. I can't say she "walked" or "crutched" into the room. Does "hobbled" make sense?

Yep, hobbled is the word -- walk lamely or limp with an uneven or infirm gait, etc.

Yeah, hobbled is good. Crutched also works, and provides a clear picture of the action. Then you've also got limped, and gimped, depending on how colorful your narrator's voice is.
