February Book Study - Poll and discussion for future months

So, I'm going through the list as I normally do, and knocking off choices for one reason or another. And this time I tried to keep the urban fantasies on the list to follow the theme (as an aside, I recently swore off urban fantasy, but there are forces at work here greater than I ).

Well, I could have saved myself a half hour just by listing what someone pre-voted for, because by the time I reached that thread, those were the books I'd not rejected for one reason or another.

Just explaining so you don't all think I'm biased. Though there is something to be said about the squeaky wheel here!

Also, I hope five is not too many. We've had more voters lately so I'm risking it.

Without further ado: Our choices of Fantasy, to be discussed in February:

The Secret History of Moscow by Ekaterina Sedia
The Orphan's Tales: In the Night Garden by Catherynne M. Valente
The Onion Girl by Charles de Lint
Winter's Orphans by Elaine Corvidae (once a content stand alone)
Firebird by Mercedes Lackey

Please note that while all are paperback, most (all?) have a moderate price tag on them. Whatever book wins, you may want to plan ahead with your library or inter-library loan system.

Now, for the discussion. Since Lord of Light and some others came up, I thought we could do a F/SF SF/F crossover books for March and April. If so we can put up the suggestions and read the top two, or vote separately each month.

I'm also up for any other suggestions, ideas, or prompts. I'm tempted to have a humor-themed fantasy roll call for one of our fantasy months, should others agree.

And for you prolific readers, check out the AW Bookclub forum (sub forum?) where they are doing monthly book studies as well.

Incidentally, anyone have any thoughts on the crossover idea?

I will start a thread around February with the already mentioned crossover suggestions and ask for more. That is unless we come up with something else or ppl object... squeaky wheels and all that

Bump. I'm getting my copy from the library in a few days (just gotta pay off that 40c fine and wait for the ILL system to deliver it...)
